Discountと並ぶ女性ボーカルバンドの金字塔。
Carolyn嬢の甘い声と、Andyのギンギラギターの核融合。
自動制御装置(Servomechanism、通称Servo)なんてモノは
一切装備されていないような疾走ぶりを見せる楽曲の数々。
Servoの語源はラテン語での“奴隷”な訳ですが、その意味が示す通りに
Carolyn嬢が相手なら服従したって構わないという気持ちが沸々と湧いてきます。
以下の音源以外では、「The Best Punk Rock In England, My Friend」に
名曲「Vice Versa」のバージョン違いを収録しています。
音の感触からすると、おそらくAndyが参加する前の音源でしょうか。
ちなみに「Vice Versa」は、ラテン語で“逆も真なり”の意。
Servoが世に出した唯一のアルバムである「Everything Is Difficult」と、
その延長線上にある7"「Now We Are Six」は、心の底から絶賛できる逸品です。
一番にオススメしたい物が一番入手が難しかったりするバンドが多い中で、
この2つの音源が手に入りやすいというのは非常に幸運な事と言えましょう。
Servoを初めて聴く方は、まず「Everything Is Difficult」をお試しになって下さい。
自分は、この音源を初めて聴いた時の事を今でも鮮やかに思い出せます。
夕暮れ間近の吉祥寺の街並みを、いつものように中古での入荷を漁るべく
馴染みのディスクユニオンまで携帯CDプレイヤーに耳を傾けつつ足を運んでいた時に受けた大きな衝撃。
やがて陽炎が空を焦がす街で、この音源に出会えた。それを最高に感じる。
