その筋のポップパンクにおける帝王、Raggity Anne。
バンド名はジャケで使われる人形のキャラクター、Raggedy Anneのパロディーでしょうか。
その後の音源でもクオリティーの高いショボポップパンクチューンを連発。
何か、自分の言ってる事は矛盾しておりますね。質の良いショボポップパンク？
数え切れない程に多くのコンピレーションにも曲を提供しておりまして、
Bluefireからの「Snakebite City 5」、SpeedowaxからのTour 7"EP、
Snuffy Smileからの「The Best Punk Rock In England, My Friend」、
Smokin Trollからの「Don't Worry It's Only Punkrock」に4曲、
High Societyからの「The British Punk Invasion Vol.2」に6曲で参加しておりますが、
その遍く全てが後にリリースされる編集盤音源に収録されております。
また、その他には「Elvis Told Us To Do It」なる8曲入りのデモカセット、
「Anaraknaphobia」なる9曲入りのデモカセットを出しているそうです。
1stアルバム「Rascal Soup」の再発盤では最初のデモCDに加え、
多くの未収録曲が追加されました。「YMCA」のカバーなんかもあったりして、
この辺りは日本のLife Styleのセンスにも通ずる感じ。
そして、特筆すべきは「Fly Me To The Moon」(エヴァのバージョンがお気に入り)、
バート・バカラック作曲の「I Say A Little Prayer」と並んで、
世界で最もロマンティックな曲の1つに数えられるであろう「Only You」のカバーです。
原曲は80年代のエレクトロニカ・グループ、Yazooによる物で、
Flying Picketsというバンドがアカペラで歌った演奏が有名でありましょう。
この上もなく美しいメロディーに切ない歌詞。本当に良い曲です。
Raggity Anneのアレンジは少しアレなんですが、この選曲だけで彼等の株は急上昇。
“窓からの景色は、まるで恋の物語。僕の声が聞こえるかい？
昨日に戻ってきたばかりで、明日にはもっと遠くに離れてしまう。傍にいて欲しい。
必要だったのは、君がくれる愛だけ。必要だったのは、もう1日だけ。
