北アイルランドの首都、ベルファストで90年代の半ばに活動したMonkhouse。
Oiパンクとハードコアを織り交ぜたスタイルのサウンドを鳴らしています。
まとまった音源としては、2枚のオリジナルアルバム「Cakey Pig」、「Grudge」と
Striknien DCとのスプリット、そして解散する間際にリリースした
それまでの音源をまとめた(まとめ切れてないけど)編集盤がございます。
Damaged Goodからリリースされた1stアルバム、1st EP、2nd EPの3枚では
フランキー・スタッブスからプロデュースを施されております。
ただ、その1stアルバム「Cakey Pig」なんですが、これは少々退屈な作品。
それよりも2ndアルバム「Grudge」は、スピーディーな曲展開で、
メロディアスな感じとなっていて、こちらの方がオススメであります。
以下の音源以外では、Damaged Goodsからの7"でのV.A
「Last Christmas I Gave You My Heart」に「Guinness And Wine」、
Rabbit Recordsからの「Too Much To Ask?」で
「For A Day (Shit Mix) 」と「Who Cares」のデモヴァージョンを収録。
何でも、最近になって再結成をしたとか、しないとか。
果たして新しい音源のリリースはあるんでしょうかねぇ。
