Snuffが当時のシーンに与えた大きさを物語るバンドと言えましょう。
これほどまでに露骨にSnuffからの影響を感じるバンドも珍しいのではないでしょうか。
その最たる物が初期の2枚のアルバムで、Snuffを更にショボくしたような音を展開しています。
また、2ndアルバムをリリースした後に一時解散していた時期があったみたいなんですが、
今となってしまっては詳しい事は分からないのです(嗚呼、後追い組の哀しさよ…)。
それにつけても、その後にFATへ移籍してからは音の傾向が変わっている辺りまでSnuffにそっくり。
しかし、Goober Patrolは凡百のフォロワーでは決してありません。
2ndアルバム「Dutch Ovens」は、本当に素晴らしいアルバムとなっています。
「Hay Hay And Thrice Hay」から始まり、「Part Of Me」で幕を閉じる一連の流れは
UKメロディックの作品の中でも屈指の物なのではないでしょうか、などと書いてみたり。
FATに移籍した後だって、それなりにカッコイイ音楽を鳴らしていると思うんですけど。
そこはかとなく漂うB級っぽさが世間の評価を下げているのかな。
いや、FATのバンドの中では間違いなくB級と言って然るべきであって、
UKメロディックのバンドとして考えるとFATのような大きなレーベルから
音源をリリースをしている事に少し違和感を感じるといったところでしょうか。
まるで、鳥にも哺乳類にもなれなかった蝙蝠の寓話みたいですねぇ。
さて、それぞれの音源は、ごく初期のアナログを除けば中古で安価な値段にて入手できると思います。
FATから出てる物や、最近に出たベスト盤的なアルバムなら新品でも入手可能でしょう。
V.Aにも多数参加しており、その中には最近に出たベスト盤的CDにおいても未収録の物もたくさんあります。
主なところだと「Best Punk Rock In England,Son」に収録の名曲「Waiting」、
同じくSnuffyからのSnuffへのトリビュート「Somehow It Don't Bother Me」に収録の「What Kind Of Love」、
FATからの「Short Music For The Short People」に収録の「Mirror, Signal, Wheelspin」辺りが挙げられましょう。
